Position Overview


Our client is an international mining organisation currently revitalising a long-established gold operation in Papua New Guinea. With a renewed investment strategy, the company is focused on building a high-performance, safety-driven and technologically advanced mining environment. As they expand their exploration and production capabilities, they are strengthening their technical teams to support the next phase of operational growth. They are now seeking an experienced Civil Infrastructure Superintendent to lead the delivery, maintenance and development of civil infrastructure supporting the restart and expansion of their gold mine.


This is a hands-on operational leadership role responsible for managing the mine’s civil works program, coordinating civil construction contractors, and overseeing the operation and maintenance of the site’s earthmoving fleet.

The role will play a critical part in ensuring that mine access roads, drainage systems, airstrip infrastructure and operational facilities are constructed and maintained to support safe, reliable mine operations in a high rainfall, remote environment.


The successful candidate will combine strong civil engineering knowledge, practical construction management experience, and disciplined asset and contractor management.


Key Responsibilities


  • Civil Infrastructure Delivery

  • Lead the planning and delivery of the mine’s civil infrastructure program supporting operations and mine expansion.

  • Manage construction and maintenance of critical infrastructure including:

    • Mine access roads

    • Internal haul roads and site roads

    • Drainage systems and culverts

    • Airstrip infrastructure

    • Camp and operational facilities

    • Water management systems

    • Fuel storage and logistics infrastructure.

  • Ensure all civil works are delivered in accordance with engineering standards, project specifications and mine operational requirements.


Road Construction & Maintenance


  • Manage construction and maintenance of mine access roads and civil infrastructure in high rainfall conditions.

  • Implement appropriate road design, grading, compaction and sheeting standards.

  • Ensure effective drainage and erosion control to maintain all-weather access to the mine site.

  • Develop road maintenance programs to minimise operational disruption.


Civil Construction Management


  • Coordinate day-to-day civil construction activities across the mine site.

  • Supervise contractors undertaking works including:

    • earthworks and bulk excavation

    • road construction and rehabilitation

    • drainage systems and culverts

    • concrete foundations and infrastructure works.

  • Ensure works are executed safely, efficiently and in line with approved construction methodologies.


Contractor & Project Coordination


  • Manage and coordinate civil works contractors operating on site.

  • Monitor contractor performance against construction schedules, scope of works, safety standards and quality requirements.

  • Identify and resolve construction issues impacting project progress.

  • Coordinate construction activities with:

    • mine operations

    • engineering consultants

    • logistics and supply teams

    • community and landowner stakeholders where required.


Mobile Fleet Management


  • Oversee operation and utilisation of the site civil earthmoving fleet, including:

    • excavators

    • dump trucks

    • graders

    • rollers.

  • Supervise equipment operators and civil crews.

  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are implemented and adhered to.

  • Monitor equipment productivity, utilisation and operational performance.


QA/QC and Engineering Compliance


  • Implement and maintain QA/QC processes for civil construction works.

  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications and construction standards.

  • Review contractor quality documentation and manage non-conformance reports and corrective actions.


Contract Administration & Reporting


  • Support administration of civil works contracts including:

    • progress monitoring

    • variation assessments

    • progress claim verification

    • contractor performance reviews.

  • Maintain accurate reporting relating to:

    • civil works progress

    • equipment utilisation

    • cost tracking and project performance.


Safety & Environmental Compliance


  • Ensure all civil works comply with mine safety systems, environmental controls and regulatory requirements.

  • Promote a strong safety culture across civil crews and contractors.

  • Participate in incident investigations and safety improvement initiatives.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.

  • Minimum 8–10 years experience in civil construction, mining infrastructure or heavy civil works.

  • Experience working in remote mining environments or large infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • road construction and maintenance

    • drainage and culvert systems

    • erosion control

    • heavy earthmoving operations.
